From 2017-2020, Tahir was the Inaugural Dean of the School of Education at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). He is a co-founder and Director of the Center for Economic Research in Pakistan (CERP) and has served on the boards of the Punjab Education Foundation and the National Academy of Higher Education during his time in Pakistan. He is a member of the Global Education Evidence Advisory Panel (GEEAP), co-hosted by FCDO and the World Bank, and a member of the Global Education Dean’s Forum. His work has been published in top economics and education journals including the American Economic Review, Journal of Public Economics, and AEJ: Applied Economics and Comparative Education Review. At the School of Education, he initiated research programs and designed training programs for Punjab education department officials to create mentoring communities of practice for schoolteachers. He is currently leading a large-scale post-COVID technology-assisted targeted instruction intervention in Pakistan (TIP) with the Federal and KP governments.
